Safety instructions

The instructions every passenger receives before departure.

Safety instructions for valid passenger liability insurance (translated from the Norwegian original; the Norwegian version is the one passengers sign).

An adventure tour by RIB can never be completely free of risk, and includes, among other things, playing in waves, driving at speeds over 30 knots and driving in formation. Therefore read carefully through this before you sign.

This tour will only go in waters where the passenger liability insurance applies (the boat being in speed area 3 or less under the passenger regulations). The boat with passengers is insured for up to NOK 30 million per total loss event. Equipment you bring along is under no circumstances covered by the insurance.

A safety briefing, including answers to participants’ questions, before every tour, event or excursion is mandatory. You actively help reduce the risk on board by the way you behave during the tour.

Survival suit

  • Check the survival suit, tighten the cuffs on arms and legs, and tighten the belt.
  • The survival suit is spray- and rain-proof.
  • The survival suit is warm, and you survive at least one hour in ice water.
  • The survival suit has 165 newtons of buoyancy and works as a life jacket.
  • The survival suit can be released manually: pull the red cord on the right side.
  • The survival suit can be inflated manually: mouthpiece on the right side.
  • The survival suit meets visibility requirements for rescue.
  • The survival suit has a whistle on the right side.
  • The survival suit has a handle for lifting passengers out of the water on the right side.
  • The survival suit has zips for ventilation under the arms.
  • The survival suit has braces.

On board

  • Keep the load on your legs. Never sit heavily on your bottom.
  • If you stand, do so with your knees bent.
  • Hold on firmly to the handles with both hands.
  • Never change places at speed under any circumstances.
  • Say immediately if you become scared, tired or unwell. We adapt the driving to the least comfortable passenger.
  • Tell us immediately if others seem scared or unwell.
  • If someone falls overboard, alert the captain immediately and never lose sight of the person.
  • Keep your head up. Do not bend down into the boat or towards your fellow passengers.
  • Watch the sea and the conditions around you closely.
  • Always expect unexpected and sudden movements in a RIB.

Health and age

  • If you have problems with your back, brittle bones or other physical injuries, you should not take part in RIB events with high speed and large waves. You may take part, but must tell us beforehand so that we plan the tour according to your conditions.
  • If you are comfortable jumping down one metre, that is fine.
  • If you are pregnant, you should not take part in a RIB tour.
  • If you are under 14, you must be accompanied by an adult.

Emergencies

  • If the skipper is seriously injured, a person agreed in advance (co-skipper) takes over responsibility. This person must know how to start and drive this RIB.
  • Everyone must know where the alarm plan, emergency and first-aid equipment are, and how it works (VHF, fire extinguisher, flares, drogue, lines, throwing line and rescue grating).
  • In an emergency nobody may leave the boat or their seat until the skipper has given instructions. If you must leave the boat, for example because of fire, everyone must stay together as a group.

Nobody may be visibly intoxicated on tour. There is a general ban on alcohol when we are out in the boats.

By signing, I understand that participation is voluntary and at my own responsibility and risk beyond what is covered by the applicable marine insurance and passenger liability insurance. Mobile phones, cameras, laptops, glasses and the like are not covered by insurance and are brought at your own risk.

I have been made familiar with the content of these safety instructions. Welcome on board!

All participants must sign that they understand the “Safety instructions for all passengers with passenger liability insurance” before the tour can start.
